Ralf Rangnick takes charge at Manchester United

Architect of Red Bull success lands most high-profile role of career

German coach appointed as interim manager until the end of the season

Manchester United have appointed Ralf Rangnick as their interim manager until the end of the season, subject to work visa requirements. The 63-year-old takes over from Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who was dismissed after a poor run of results.

Rangnick is widely regarded as one of the most influential coaches in modern German football. He was the architect of the rise of RB Leipzig, who he led from the fourth tier to the Bundesliga in just eight years.

Rangnick has also had success at Schalke, Hoffenheim and Hannover 96. He left Leipzig in 2019 to become head of sport and development at Red Bull, but he has now returned to coaching.

Rangnick has a reputation for playing attacking, high-pressing football. He is also known for his ability to develop young players.

Manchester United are hoping that Rangnick can help them to turn their season around. The Red Devils are currently eighth in the Premier League, 12 points behind leaders Manchester City.

Rangnick's first game in charge will be against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday.
