Conservative Firebrand Falls Short In Second Attempt

Jim Jordan's Bid for House Speaker Foiled in GOP Vote

Conservative Firebrand Falls Short in Second Attempt

Secret Ballot Results in Setback for Jordan's Ambitions

Washington, D.C. - In a significant setback for his political aspirations, U.S. Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) has lost his bid to become the next Speaker of the House of Representatives. Jordan, a staunch conservative and vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump, failed to secure the nomination in a secret ballot held among House Republicans.

This marks the second time that Jordan has unsuccessfully sought the speakership. He previously ran in 2018 but withdrew his candidacy before the vote. Despite his popularity among some segments of the Republican base, Jordan has faced opposition from more moderate members of his party.

In a statement following the vote, Jordan thanked his supporters and vowed to continue working "to fight for the values that made this country great." He did not rule out running for speaker again in the future but acknowledged that he needed to "earn the trust" of his colleagues.

Jordan's defeat is a blow to the hardline conservative wing of the Republican Party. It also highlights the ongoing divisions within the GOP, which is struggling to find a consensus on who should lead them into the 2022 midterm elections.

With Jordan out of the running, the race for speaker remains fluid. Several other candidates, including Reps. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Steve Scalise (R-La.), and Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), are still vying for the position.
