River Plate Thrashes Banfield in Argentine Liga Profesional De Fútbol

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina - River Plate continued their impressive start to the Argentine Liga Profesional De Fútbol season with a resounding 4-1 victory over Banfield at the Estadio Monumental on Monday.
After a goalless first half, River Plate exploded out of the blocks in the second period, with Venezuelan striker Salomón Rondón opening the scoring in the 55th minute. Argentinian winger Pablo Solari doubled the lead just seven minutes later, curling a beautiful shot into the top corner.
Midfielder Enzo Fernández then got in on the act, setting up Miguel Borja for a tap-in in the 75th minute. Borja then grabbed his second of the game in stoppage time, completing a dominant performance from River Plate.
Banfield's only consolation came from a penalty converted by Juan Cruz in the 85th minute.
The victory takes River Plate to the top of the Liga Profesional De Fútbol table with 10 points from four games, while Banfield remains in 13th place with just two points from their opening three fixtures.
